The Miami County Arts Coalition (MCAC) and Miami County Medical Center (MCMC) recently announced their plans to open a new art gallery in May.

The gallery, which will be called “REFLECTIONS: A Restorative Gallery,” will be located at MCMC in Paola, according to a news release.

“REFLECTIONS is a gallery dedicated to serving the Miami County community by providing exhibit opportunities for artists with significant local connections and local art patrons, which promote the healing mission of MCMC,” the release states.

Both MCMC and MCAC are nonprofit organizations designated as 501©(3) charitable entities. The gallery will not offer for sale any displayed artwork but will provide information at exhibits regarding the displayed artwork as well as the exhibiting artists.

“Last year, we reached out to community arts organizations with the hope of bringing local art to Miami County Medical Center,” said Paul Luce, vice president of operations at the medical center. “The Miami County Arts Coalition stepped forward. They have spent countless hours the past six months working with us to open a gallery at the medical center which will serve the entire county.”

The new gallery will be located prominently near the hospital inpatient wing. The goal is to not only provide local artists with a new venue to display their art, but also to offer patients of the hospital, along with their families, a peaceful area that will allow for restoring emotional and spiritual wellness that leads to physical wellness and healing, according to the release.

MCMC’s Auxiliary has also joined the effort and has helped in funding the gallery lighting and exhibit display system.

“The opening of an art gallery at Miami County Medical Center is a landmark to its commitment to our community,” said Steve Montgomery, MCAC president. “Our two private charitable entities working in tandem will be collaborating with all members of the arts communities, including artists, the Louisburg Council for the Arts and the Heartland Art Guild, as well as others to create a meaningful experience for everyone. We are very grateful to the Miami County Medical Center for initiating this effort.”

MCAC has invited all artists with local connections to submit original artwork for the opening exhibit. A Request for Submission has been issued, setting out the requirements. A copy of the requirements may be found at the MCAC website at www.MicoArts.org or www.olathehealth.org/mcmc. The deadline for submissions for the opening exhibit is 5 p.m. April 1.
